Context
The annual world production of olive oil is estimated to be ca.1,750 MTm and Spain is the largest producer of olive oil (49.2%). With this scenario, it makes sense to look for new synergies between different parties to find solutions aligned with the 3Rs, reduce, reuse and recycle and the use of sustainable products to adapt existing processes to more circular ones.
OliWasTex aims to revalue alperujo to obtain raw material for textile dyeing through a simple extraction process and, in this way, boost the economy of local olive oil producers by capitalizing on a waste product. In addition, industrial dyers will also benefit from offering a new line of sustainable products using their existing machinery and thus aligning themselves with the current market trend. By increasing the supply of these types of products, it helps to contribute to changing society's consumption habits.
